  LET IT BE - BEATLES, THE 

Esta senhora que você na imagem acima chama-se Mary McCartney, a mãe de James Paul McCartney. Era uma fumante inveterada, que ia de bicicleta para o seu trabalho todos os dias, foi ela a inspiração para a música “Let It Be” (algo com “Deixe ser” ou “Que assim seja”). A canção foi escrita por Paul McCartney em um período difícil para os Beatles e para próprio Paul, que parecia ser o único que ainda se importava com a banda nessa época. Paul fala sobre a letra na autobiografia “Many Years From Now” de Barry Miles: Uma noite, durante aqueles tempos intensos, eu tive um sonho com minha mãe que tinha morrido há mais de 10 anos atrás. E foi tão bom vê-la porque isso é fantástico nos sonhos: Você fica unida a essa pessoa por segundos e parece que esteve presente fisicamente também. Foi ótimo para mim e ela parecia estar em paz no sonho dizendo, ‘Tudo ficará bem, não se preocupe, pois tudo se acertará.' Eu não me lembro se ela usou a palavra ‘Let it be’ (Deixa ser) mas era o sentido do seu conselho. Eu me senti muito abençoado por ter tido aquele sonho. E comecei a canção literalmente com a frase ‘Mother Mary.’ A canção é baseada naquele sonho. Muitos chegam a acreditar que a música é de cunho religioso, pois a canção cita “Mother Mary comes to me”,que apesar de parecer algo católico ou cristão (algo como“Ave Maria vem até mim”), na verdade se refere da mãe de Paul.

Mary McCartney sofreu muito, após ser diagnosticada com câncer de mama e faria uma mastectomia em 31 de outubro de 1956. Antes disso, ela limpou a casa dos McCartney, deixou os uniformes de seus filhos prontos para o dia seguinte e disse a sua cunhada: “Agora está tudo pronto para eles no caso de eu não voltar”. Mary morreria de embolia no dia da operação, suas últimas palavras, para sua cunhada, foram: “Eu gostaria de ter visto os meninos que crescerem”. Paul, compôs “Let it be” 10 anos depois e em 1969 deu o nome de Mary à sua filha (foto acima). Michael McCartney, irmão de Paul e conhecido profissionalmente como Michael McGear, lançou um álbum intitulado Woman, em 1972, com uma foto de Mary na capa.
